Johan Cruyff started out with Ajax Juniors at the age of 10. He made it to the first team seven years later. In his first year with the first team, he insisted on retaining the #14 because he first won a cup when he was 14! Since then the number 14 and Cruyff became inseparable. In fact, a documentary film about him was simply titled '14'.

Cruyff was born on April 25, 1947 in Betondorp, Holland. His family lived right across the street from the Ajax Stadium. So it is no surprise that his career started with Ajax. Shortly after his 10th birthday, he was selected from over 200 kids to join the Ajax youth team. The rest, like they said, is history.

Perhaps Cruyff was not perfect. Among all those records he set, he was also the first Dutch player ever being sent off, and was suspended for a year by the Dutch FA. He was also the first player, and still the only player (at least in World Cup history) to be cautioned during half time in the World Cup final in West Germany 1974. Yet his remarkable skills and talent did dominated Europe in the 70's, and forever change the Dutch football.
